Sandra Bennett McKinney, 83, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 21, 2022. A native of Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late Clyde Edwards and Dorothy Hubbard Bennett, and was the wife of the late James Shannon McKinney.
Sandra was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and received a Bachelor of Music at Greensboro College. She received a Master of Education and an Education Specialist Degree from Converse College. Sandra was retired from Districts Four and Six Schools, after many years of service.
A member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the choir and worked with the Presbyterian Women on a local and national level. She was also a member of Bible Study Fellowship Spartanburg Women’s Day Class.
Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Bennett McKinney of Spartanburg, SC, sister-in-law, Charlene Grant Bennett of Spartanburg, SC, nephews, Brian Edward Bennett of Hickory, NC, and Alan Wayne Bennett (Dana) of Hickory, NC, Donald McKinney Coggins (Teresa) of Greenville, SC, a niece, Sally McKinney Harrison (Marty) of Greenville, SC, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, she is also predeceased by her two brothers, Clyde Edwards Bennett Jr. and John Daniel Bennett, her father-in-law, P.W. McKinney, mother-in-law, Evelyn Clark McKinney, sister-in law, June McKinney Reynolds, brother-in-law, Donald Leon McKinney, and nephew, Kyle Shannon McKinney, along with her dear friend of 67 years, Margaret “Peggy” Mitchell Baugher.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 880 W.O.Ezell Blvd, Spartanburg, SC 29301, conducted by The Rev. Thomas Massey and The Rev. Jake Greer with pianist Debbie Sobeski.. Visitation will follow at the church. A Graveside service will be privately held and conducted by Rev. James Wooten with a closing prayer by Dr. Deborah Dean.
Guests are requested to wear masks.
In leu of flowers, memorials may be made to Reidville Road Animal Hospital, 1423 John B. White Sr. Blvd., Spartanburg, SC 29301, for the Popcat Fund, which is set up to help animals in need.
