Samuel B. Witz, 89, of Spartanburg, died Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born July 7, 1923, in Newark, NJ, he was the son of the late Sigmund and Becky Shmain Witz, and husband for 59 years of the late Sally Cohen Witz. Mr. Witz was a northerner by birth but quickly came to love the south. He was employed with Butte Knit from 1960-1981. He was a member of Temple B'Nai Israel where he was the former president. He also loved staying very active, was a devoted volunteer for Mobile Meals Service for over 30 years, and was honored as Volunteer of the Year in 2005. He was also a volunteer with The Goodfellows, recently celebrated 50 years as a Mason, and was a Shriner. Survivors include his daughter, Arlene Holland and her husband Ron of Decatur, GA; son, Howard Witz and his wife Deborah of Charleston, SC; and two grandchildren, Max and Rachael. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Temple B'Nai Israel, by Rabbi Yossi Liebowitz. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
