Samuel Baylis Shackelford, Jr., 66, of 301 Dunbarton Court, Spartanburg, died Monday, January 9, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center-ER. Born August 25, 1945, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Samuel Baylis and Bruce Harley Shackelford. Sam was the co-owner and vice president of Master Machine Works, Inc. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Wofford College, received his Masters Degree at Clemson University, and was an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed his memberships in the Wofford Terrier Club, Harry Hampton Wildlife Fund, National Wild Turkey Federation, Country Club of Spartanburg, and the Piedmont Club. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be missed by all. Survivors include his beloved wife, Joy Glenn Shackelford; son, Samuel Baylis Shackelford III and his wife Jennifer Woods Shackelford of Spartanburg; daughter, Jean Shackelford Johnson and her husband Ben Johnson of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Samuel Baylis Shackelford IV and Katelyn Harley Shackelford, both of Spartanburg; and brother, Mike Shackelford of Spartanburg. He was predeceased by his sister, Sherry Elizabeth Shackelford. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. William P. Wood, the Rev. Dr. William L. Arthur, and the Rev. Ansley B. Page. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the home.
