Samuel “Sam” Landrum Gosnell, 89, of Spartanburg, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Lake Emory Post Acute Care in Inman, SC. Sam was born on August 3, 1934, in the Whitney Community of Spartanburg, a son of the late Ralph Carrey “R.C.” and Mabel Jones Gosnell. He was married to the late Dorothy Louise Johnson Gosnell.
Sam was the owner and operator of Sam L. Gosnell Heating and Air Conditioning for many years, taking care of his customers all throughout the greater Spartanburg Area. He held a Municipal Contractor’s License.
Sam and Dorothy attended Bethel Assembly of God for many years before they began attending North Spartanburg Church of God. A 32º Master Mason, Sam was a longtime member of the Whitney Mason Lodge #264 and the Hejaz Shrine Temple, where he was a former member of the Motorcycle Brigade.
Surviving are two sons, Danny Ray Gosnell of Boiling Springs, SC, and Billy Dean Gosnell of Spartanburg; his three grandchildren, Joshua Dwain Gosnell (Kaytlyn), Jonathan William Gosnell (Courtney), and Christie Marie Byrnside (Ethan); and 12 great-grandchildren, Jax Neil Kincaid, Kennedy Marie Byrnside, Ethan Allen Byrnside, Jr., Magnolia Grace Byrnside, Haedyn William Gosnell, Skyler Brackins, Jaden Brackins, Preston Sherbert, Gabriel Sherbert, Phillip Gosnell, Daniel Gosnell, and Bradlee Gosnell. Sam was predeceased by two sons, Jackie Delaine Gosnell and Phillip Wayne Gosnell.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Floyd’s North Church Street Chapel, 235 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. John Willingham. Burial, with Masonic Rites conducted by Whitney Masonic Lodge #264, will be in Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
