Sam C. Sears, 81, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at Windsor House West-Spartanburg. Born March 31, 1930, in Pendelton, SC, he was the son of the late Jesse Hodges and Lucy Gailey Sears. Mr. Sears was a U. S. Air Force veteran and retired air traffic controller for Spartanburg Downtown and Greenville Downtown Airports. He was of the Christian faith. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Evelyn Sears; son, Tony Sears of Spartanburg; granddaughter, Danielle Henry and her husband Kyle of Spartanburg; grandson, Andy Sears and fiancée Allie Hunt of Spartanburg; four great-grandchildren; one brother; and five sisters. He was predeceased by his son, Bill Sears; and one brother. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Friday, December 30, 2011, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, conducted by the Rev. Brian McCall. Entombment with military rites by American Legion Post #28 will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum.
