Sam Houston

Sam W. Houston, 86, of Spartanburg, SC, husband of Edna H. Houston, died Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born February 22, 1931, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late William Herbert and Pearl Tucker Houston. A longtime realtor and home builder, Sam was also employed by Norfolk Southern for 42 years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and a member of Cannons Ruritan Club as well as the UTU (United Transportation Union). In addition to his wife, Sam is survived by a son, William M. Houston (Carol); six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Walter Houston. He was predeceased by a son, Sam W. Houston Jr. A cryptside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 24, 2017, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Complex, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. Gerald Burnett. Visitation will follow at the cryptside.
