Sally Kay, 88, affectionally known as “Gigi Sally” of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, September 25, 2021 at White Oak Estates. Born September 5, 1933 in Gary, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Picton and Winona Gustafson Jones and the wife of the late Edward Coker Kay.
Sally graduated high school in Muncie, Indiana, attended Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and Converse University (formerly College). A member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, she loved playing the organ and piano, singing in the choir, and was a member of the “Knit-Wits” knitting group where they knitted for babies, hospice, or anyone in need.
Survivors include her daughters, Kimberly Kay (Mike Allen) of Columbia, SC, Sherry Shuler (Jim) of Marshville, NC, Nancy Ward (William) of Cartersville, GA, Susan Kay of Napa Valley, CA, ten grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, her brother, Tim Jones (Karen) of Sarasota, FL. She is also predeceased by her sons, Ted Kay, Timmy Kay, and Michael Kay.
A funeral service will be 11:00 AM Monday, October 4, 2021 at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1320 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. John Warren. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. For those who choose not to attend an indoor service, you are welcome to meet the family at the graveside committal at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens at noon.
The family would like to give special thanks to Eden Terrace, White Oak Estates, and Spartanburg Regional Medical Center Hospice for their excellent care, and for St. Paul United Methodist Church for their care and concern.
