S. Thrift

S. B. "Coot" Thrift, 85, a resident of Richard M. Campbell Veteran's Nursing Home, Anderson, SC, formerly of Cowpens, died Friday, February 19, 2010, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born December 3, 1924, in Fingerville, SC, he was the son of the late Lettie Thrift Miller and reared by his grandparents, the late Durham and Mary Ella Thrift. He was the husband of the late Peggy Robinson Thrift and was first married to the late Barbara Barnett Thrift. He was retired from Clarkson Brothers and Best Machinery, a member of the First Baptist Church of Cowpens, a member of the Lion's Club, a longtime volunteer of the Cowpens V.F.D, and a Veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in World War II. Survivors include two children, Tony R. (Jill) Thrift of Cowpens, and Theresa T. (Dennis) Bolton of Chesnee; four sisters, Tess Quinn of Cowpens, Louise Crump of Cowpens, Faye Kelly of Lilesville, NC, and Jean Boone of Wadesboro, NC; five grandchildren, Julie (Drew) Bright of Chesnee, Clay (Gwen) Thrift of Spartanburg, Chris Fowler of Spartanburg, Zachary (Courtney) Bolton of Rochester, NY, and Tyler (Sabrina) Bolton of Mayo; and thirteen great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Donald M. Thrift. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, February 21, 2010, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2010, at the First Baptist Church of Cowpens conducted by the Rev. Dr. Bill Westafer and the Rev. Gary Grogan. Burial with military rites by the SC State Guard Honors Team will be in Daniel Morgan Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home Memory Tree, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
