Rutledge Morris

Rutledge S. Morris, 86, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at his home. Born August 6, 1922, in Talbottom, GA, he was the son of the late Gretchen Alvin and Minnie Jane Gore Morris. A graduate of Fairforest High School, North Greenville Junior College, and Furman University, he was retired from Draper Corporation, a division of North American Rockwell. He was the commissioner of the Westview-Fairforest Fire District from 1960 to 1962 and a member of the Fairforest Ruritan Club where he served as president. He was a member of DPMA, NOMA, and Textile Data Processing Organization. He was a member of Arcadia First Baptist Church where he held various positions during his lifetime including Deacon and chairman several times, a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and was on numerous committees. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Hopkins Morris; two sons, Dennis Lynn Morris and his wife Judy of Zionsville, PA, and James David Morris of Greenville; a daughter, Mary Alice Loftis and her husband Mike of Moore; two granddaughters, Melissa Jean Morris of Alexandria, VA, and Megan Leigh Morris of Allentown, PA; and one grandson, Benjamin David Loftis of Moore. He was predeceased by a brother, Ray Morris; and three sisters, Metee Morris Baker, Rosa Morris, and Marjorie Morris Cooper. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to SRMC Hospice Special Needs Fund, 120 Heywood Avenue, Suite 300, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, c/o Spartanburg County Baptist Network, P.
