Ruth Yarborough

Ruth Harkey Yarborough, 96, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born September 28, 1919, in Union County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Clark W. Harkey and Virgie Sutton Harkey, and the beloved wife for 46 years of the late Edward H. Yarborough. Ruth was a 1936 graduate of Indian Trail High School and a graduate of Shuford College of Cosmetology in Charlotte, NC. She was an active member of Southside Baptist Church since 1955 and a member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Green Pond Community Club. Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be remembered by her family and friends for her gracious and loving spirit. Survivors include two sons, Edward H. Yarborough, III of Spartanburg, SC, Dan C. Yarborough and his wife Mary Page, of Spartanburg, SC; two grandsons, Edward H. Yarborough, IV and his wife Laura Lynn, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Daniel C. Yarborough, Jr. and his wife Angie, of Spartanburg, SC; great-grandchildren, Brianna, Chelsea, and Olivia Yarborough; and a sister, Beatrice Barnette of Monroe, NC. She was predeceased by a brother, James Harkey; a sister, Edith Hinson; and a daughter-in-law, Gail Jones Yarborough. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Sunday, September 25, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. James C. Hilton. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the doctors and nurses on 5 North-Spartanburg Medical Center; to Dr. Rodak for his wisdom and compassion; to Dr. Snipes, Al, and the nurses and staff of Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home; and to the caregivers, with special thanks to Doris, Jan, Rose, and Victorica.
