Ruth Louise McHam, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at White Oak Estates-Spartanburg. She was the daughter of the late Marcus Iberry McHam and Verona Thomas McHam. Ruth was born in Spartanburg, SC on July 6, 1927 and grew up in Hendersonville, NC. Her family later returned to Spartanburg where she attended local schools and graduated from Spartanburg High School Class of 1944 and Cecil's Business College. She was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church ELCA and a member of the WELCA Lutheran Church Circle Two. She was a prior member of the National Secretaries Association and retired from Milliken & Company in Spartanburg, SC after 31 years of service as an executive secretary. She had previously worked at Stone Manufacturing Company in Greenville, SC. Survivors include her sister, Priscilla M. Moore of Gainesville, FL; nephews, Marcus Moore of Gainesville, FL and Thomas Moore of Atlanta, GA; two great-nephews of Jacksonville, FL; and a very special friend, Kare Kragas. She was predeceased by a nephew, Charles Moore. A memorial service will be conducted at 12:15 PM Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at St. John's Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Michael Shackelford and the Rev. Emily Edenfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Parish Life Center, 415 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
