Ruth Hodge

October 17, 1931 — December 24, 2010

Ruth Bryant Hodge, 79, passed away Friday, December 24, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, GA, following a short illness. Born October 17, 1931, in Pacolet, SC, she was a daughter of the late Furman Bryant and Maybelle Bryant Fowler. She graduated from Pacolet High School and Cecil's Business College, and was employed with First Federal Savings & Loan Association and Grier and Co. in Spartanburg, SC. She and her husband resided in Hazelhurst and Dalton, GA before settling in Marietta, GA for the past 37 years. Ruth and her husband were members of the Atlanta Country Club for many years, where they enjoyed many fun activities and friendships. She also enjoyed golf in previous years, travel abroad, and cross-country travel with friends and family. Oil painting was also a favorite passion. Ruth will be remembered for her immense love for her family and close friends, and a sense of humor that was enjoyed by all who were honored to be a part of her very special life. Survivors include her high school sweetheart and husband of 60 years, Jimmy W. Hodge; two sons, Wilton D. Hodge of Marietta, GA, and Tony E. Hodge of Tiger, GA; a daughter, Debra Hodge Strickland of Franklin, TN; grandchildren, Zachary R. Strickland and Amelia Hodge; and a great-granddaughter, Addison Taylor Strickland; a sister, Faye Howell Brown of Pacolet, SC; a brother, Grady Bryant of Summerville, SC; and numerous relatives from the Bryant and Hodge families, many who still live in the Greenville and Spartanburg, SC area. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 p.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at Floyd's Pacolet Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Lyn Pace. Burial will be in Pacolet Memorial Gardens. Floral offerings will be accepted or memorials may be made to Montgomery Memorial United Methodist Church, 160 Stone Street Pacolet Mills, SC 29373.
