Ruth McClure Foster Hendley, 95, of Spartanburg, died Monday, August 8, 2011, at White Oak Estates. Born in Chesnee, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Byrd and Fannie Mae McClure Foster, and wife of the late W. H. Hendley, Jr. Ruth retired as a school teacher, having taught 36 years in numerous schools, including Westend and Jesse Boyd Elementary. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by District 7 Administration as a Math Specialist. She was a former second chair, first violin, in the Spartanburg Symphony Orchestra, an accomplished keyboard player for piano and organ, as well as, a teacher of violin and piano. She graduated in 1937 from Converse College with a major in mathematics. She was also a charter member of Fernwood Baptist Church and a longtime member of the Adult Chapel Choir and the Fernwood Bell Ringers. Survivors include her son, W. Harvey Hendley III of the home; a sister, Mrs. Harry L. Mitchell of San Antonio, TX; two nieces; one nephew; and a special caregiver, Sara Brownlee. She was predeceased by three sisters, Lucille M. Foster, Geraldine F. Taylor, and Elaine M. Foster. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM Friday, August 12, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Dean Allen. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum.
