Ruth Gilliland

Ruth Ballard Gilliland, 87, of Spartanburg, died Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Magnolia Manor, Inman. Born June 1, 1924 in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late John and Hester Guy Ballard and wife of the late Otis E. Gilliland. Mrs. Gilliland was retired from Spartan Mills and a life long member of North Spartanburg Free Will Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. Surviving are son, Larry Gilliland and wife Vickie of Inman; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; sister, Flora Millwood of Spartanburg; and two daughters-in-law, Linda Carroll of Inman and Susan Smith of Wellford. She was predeceased by two sons, Rev. John Gilliland, Sr. and David Gilliland; and sister, Catherine Horton. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Monday, May 14, 2012 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at North Spartanburg Free Will Baptist Church by the Rev. Sammy Sutton, Rev. Jackie Millwood, Jr., and the Rev. John Gilliland II. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will accept flowers and memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC 28722.
