Ruth Browning

April 30, 1925 — November 26, 2017

Ruth Manifold Moon Browning, wife of the late Francis Harold Browning, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2017, at the age of 92. Born April 30, 1925, in Shreveport, LA, she was the daughter of the late James Leslie and Roberta Manifold Moon. Ruth was raised in Ashland, AL, where she met her soulmate and the love of her life when she was just 13. She received a degree from the University of Montevallo in 1945. Ruth and Harold were married on September 5, 1948, after his return from service in the U. S. Navy during World War II, and prior to his senior year at Auburn University. Upon his graduation, they moved to Chicago, IL, where they resided for five years, then to Hammond, IN, where they raised their three daughters, retiring to Spartanburg, SC in 1984. Ruth devoted her entire life to her family as caregiver, counselor, nurse, chef, spiritual advisor and much more. She was a fully devoted follower of Christ and a mighty prayer warrior which helped sustain and carry her family through many difficult trials over the years. She loved to laugh, play games, shop, and spoil her grand- and great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed music, one of her favorite songs being, "Sweet Home Alabama," by Lynyrd Skynyrd, played in her honor many times. Ruth was the beloved mother of Rebecca Pulliam (Ed), Dana Blasi (Earl), and Jami F. Browning; grandmother to Stephanie, Alex and Adam Pulliam, and Mark Toney, Dawn Blasi Castain (Tom), and Earl Blasi II; great-grandmother to Chloe and Thomas Castain, to whom she was known affectionately as "MaMoon,"; and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Ruth was predeceased by her brother, James Russell Moon; sister, Annie Katherine Moon Haley; nephew, James Russell Moon, Jr.; and niece, Susan Nancy Moon. Ruth died peacefully at home in the presence of family after witnessing Auburn beat Alabama in an epic game. Go War Eagles!
