Rudolph Atkinson

Rudolph Edward "Rudy" Atkinson, 80, of 547 Ellsmere Way, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 30, 2009. Born September 12, 1928, in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Edward Valentine and Myrtle Mae Henderson Atkinson. He formerly resided in Greer and was first married to the late Mevlyn L. Atkinson. He was a master engraver with M. Lowenstein and Company and retired as Superintendent of Springs Industries. He attended Poplar Springs Baptist Church, was a member of the Joy Club, a 33rd degree Mason, a former member of Lone Oak Masonic Lodge, and was a U. S. Army Veteran. Survivors include his wife, Marie McElrath Taylor Atkinson; sons, Byron G. Atkinson and wife Rachel C. of Vernon Hills, IL, and Rudy E. Atkinson and special friend Beth of Lyman; a step-son, Jeff Taylor and wife Tondra of Spartanburg; a step-daughter, Terri T. Williams and husband Scott of Fairforest; two grandchildren, Stephanie Gail Pearson and husband David, and Rudy Keith Atkinson; two step-grandchildren, Travis Williams and Joshua Williams; two great-grandchildren, Ben Pearson and Robbie Pearson; two sisters, Jean Henderson of Spartanburg, and Terry L. Smigel of Wilmington, DE; a special nephew, Buddy Nance of Spartanburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be 2:00-3:30 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Robert Bevill. Flowers will be accepted; or memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 1817 Gadsden Street, Columbia, SC 29201, or to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
