Ruby Lancaster VanPatton, 93, of 675 Bushy Creek Road, died Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at her home. Born September 17, 1915, in Spartanburg County, SC, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Louvenia Belcher Lancaster and the wife of the late John T. VanPatton, Sr. She was a cosmetologist and a member of St. James United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, John T. VanPatton, Jr. of Wadmalaw Island, SC; a brother, Harry Lancaster, Sr. of Spartanburg; five grandchildren, Dana Summers, Terry Carlisle, Cindy Back, Judy Wilson, and Mickey Scherer; eleven great-grandchildren; and special friends, Nancy and Wally Alley. She was predeceased by a daughter, Janet Perry Gobble; and an infant son, Michael. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2009, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Clegg F. Taylor. The family is at the home of her granddaughter, Dana Summers, 675 Bushy Creek Road, Woodruff.
