Ruby Powell

Ruby Walker Powell, of Spartanburg, died Monday, July 25, 2011, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Cassel and Nonie Wyatt Walker, and wife of the late Luther Lanier Powell. Mrs. Powell was retired from McCrory Corporation after 43 years as office manager and bookkeeper. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg where she served as former Women's Missionary Union (WMU) Director for 4 years, regional vice president of WMU for 5 years, executive board member of South Carolina WMU, and Spartanburg County Baptist Association Treasurer. She was also a member of the Golden Friendship Retirement Club, Young At Heart, R.O.T.O., Cema Chreitzberg Garden Club, Lilly Knox Garden Club, Maranatha Sunday School Class, and Martha Lewis Mission Group. Survivors include a sister, Mary Edna Walker Lindsey of Cowpens; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Robert Coleman Wyatt and William Benjamin Walker; and a sister, Ruth Walker Mumbauer. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM Thursday, July 28, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum. Honorary escort will be members of the Maranatha Sunday School Class.
