Roy Steele Wilson, 85, of Woodruff, died Thursday, December 29, 2011, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born January 4, 1926, in Pelzer, SC, he was the son of the late John Wesley and Clara Louise Knight Wilson. Mr. Wilson was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II serving as a radioman aboard a minesweeper in the Pacific Ocean. He was educated in the Greenville County school system and a 1951 graduate of Furman University. He retired from GMAC after 30 years of service as a supervisor and district sales manager. After retirement from GMAC, he formed his own new car warranty insurance business which he maintained until 1989. Roy was a member of Southside Baptist Church. He had formerly served as R. A. Leader, Sunday School teacher, Chairman of the Board of Deacons, and Training Union Director at West Main Baptist Church. He was a former member of the Spartanburg Downtown Rotary Club. A noted youth baseball and basketball coach for many years, he was also a textile baseball and basketball player in Greenville and the surrounding area. An avid golfer for many years, he was also a member of Three Pines Country Club. Surviving is his loving wife, Anne Sanders Wilson; his children, Steve and Danny Wilson, both of Spartanburg, and Lisa Wilson of the home; four much loved grandchildren, Daniel, Katherine, and Jordan Wilson, all of Spartanburg, and Lauren Wilson of the home; brothers, John, Tom, Joe, and Bob Wilson, all of Greenville; sister, Grace Allen of Charlotte, NC; and mother-in-law, Sue L. Sanders of Emeritus at Skylyn Place-Spartanburg. He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Wilson; and brother, Lloyd Wilson. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, December 30, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Saturday, December 31, 2011, at Southside Baptist Church, by the Rev. Dr. Benjamin Littlejohn and the Rev. Dr. Schuyler Peterson.
