Roy Lanford

Roy Franklin Lanford, 92, of Jacksonville, FL and formerly of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. Born November 17, 1924, in Cross Anchor, SC, he was the son of the late Henry Grady Lanford and Mattie Huckaby Lanford. As a young man and before his move to Jacksonville, he was a member of Southside Baptist Church. A graduate of Clemson University, he retired from the Texas Highway Department and TXU Energy. Preceding him in death were his wife of 57 years, Clara Louise Mucklow Lanford; and his siblings, Lewis and Charles Lanford, Crystal Cromer, and Mary Holden. Roy was the last surviving member of his family. Survivors include two daughters, Jeanne Lanford of Orange Park, FL and Donna Thoele and her husband Larry of Jacksonville, FL, and son, Randy Lanford and his wife Susan of Vancouver, WA; three grandsons, Jay Lanford and his wife Becky of Portland, OR, Matt Thoele and his wife Amanda of Jacksonville, FL, and Jonathan Lanford and his wife Baylor of Austin, TX; two granddaughters, Lisa Thoele of Jacksonville, FL, and Bethany Specht and her husband Jon of Livermore, CA; great-grandchildren, Abby, Juniper, and Reed Lanford of Portland, OR, Hunter, Riley, and Roman Specht of Livermore, CA, and Charles and Claire Marie Thoele of Jacksonville, FL. A graveside service remembering him will be held at 1:30 PM Sunday, April 30, 2017, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Reverends Randy and Susan Lanford.
