Roy Goodwin, Jr.

Roy Earl Goodwin, Jr., 87, of Spartanburg, died Friday, January 20, 2012, at Skylyn Place. Born March 26, 1924, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Roy Earl Goodwin, Sr. and Ethel Ailene Hudson Goodwin. He was co-owner of Goodwin Auto Parts, a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg, a graduate of Spartanburg High School and Wofford College. Earl was a veteran of the U. S Army serving in WWII and was awarded the American Theater Service Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. Surviving are a brother, John P. Goodwin and his wife Marjorie of Spartanburg; three nephews, Howard E. (Buddy) Seay and wife Benni of Pauline, John P. Goodwin, Jr. of Spartanburg, and Robert W. (Bobby) Seay of Landrum; niece, Kathy G. Allen and husband Dale of Spartanburg; great-nieces and great-nephews, Maggie Moore and husband Randy of Boiling Springs, Reid P. Goodwin of Spartanburg, Catherine E. Goodwin of College Station, TX; Lea Elizabeth Allen of Spartanburg, and Myles Moore of Boiling Springs. Roy was predeceased by a sister, Margaret G. Seay; and niece, Elizabeth Ann Goodwin. Visitation will be 2:00-2:45 PM Monday, January 23, 2012 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Steven H. Rhodes. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, 438 N. Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at the home of his brother, John Goodwin, 140 Huxley Street, Spartanburg, SC.
