Ronald Preston Brown, 80, a longtime resident of Spartanburg, passed away at Spartanburg Regional Hospital on Friday, May 5, 2017, surrounded by his family. Mr. Brown, born August 20, 1936, was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin A. Brown, Sr. and Louise Bishop Brown and his brother, Benjamin A. Brown, Jr. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, JoAnne Allen Brown; sons, Michael Brown (Kathy) of Charlotte, NC, David Brown (Natalie) of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Andrea Brown Pouncey (Bill) of Columbia, SC; and grandchildren, Adam and Aaron Brown, Marshall and Tyler Brown, and Ben, Brad, and Beth Pouncey, and great granddaughter, Macie Brown. Mr. Brown graduated from Wofford in 1957 with honors, including membership in Phi Beta Kappa. While attending Wofford, he went to work for Draper Corporation, where he remained for 47 years attaining the position of Vice-President of Marketing, and part of the management group that became owners of Draper in 1985. Mr. Brown traveled extensively in the U.S. textile industry and was well known in many of America's weaving mills maintaining a relationship with Asia Pacific Fibers, a large Indonesian fiber and yarn producer which bought Draper in 1996. In fact, Mr. Brown never actually retired from being active in the textile field; yarn, fiber, and machinery part supply. Mr. Brown was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Spartanburg since 1959. He was a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and served on three pastoral search committees. Mr. Brown taught the college/career group for 25 years and then an adult class for 25 more. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 8, 2017, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Schuyler Peterson. Visitation will follow at the graveside. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
