Roger Wayne Britt, 83, of Spartanburg, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at his home. He was born on March 7, 1940, in Chadbourn, N.C. to the late Alex and Swannie Gardner Britt. He was the husband of Phyllis S. Britt. Roger and Phyllis would have celebrated their 63rd Wedding Anniversary on July 1st.
He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church and had retired from Tietex International after 29 years of service. After retirement, he also drove vehicles for Wakefield Buick. He loved his family and friends dearly, being involved in his church, and watching NASCAR racing, Braves baseball, and westerns. He enjoyed baking cakes and goodies for others, and always carried around a pocket full of bubblegum and Tootsie pops to share. He enjoyed meeting a group of friends every morning for breakfast at McDonalds at Cedar Springs. His favorite hobby was working puzzles and framing them for friends and family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his son, Timothy Britt and wife Debi of Inman; two daughters, Kelly Ruff and husband Yates Jr. of Spartanburg, and Terra Gardner and husband Kevin of Inman; two sisters, Geraldine Haggins of Red Springs, N.C and Edith Langston of Whiteville, N.C.; a brother Douglas Britt (Amanda) of Chadbourn, N.C.; five grandchildren, Kala Wilder (Ronnie) of Inman, Chelsea Dill (Josh) of Chesnee, Morgan Page (Austin) of Grovetown, GA, Kamryn-Li Gardner of Inman, and Joshua West of Woodruff; two step grandchildren, Ashley and Steven Pendley; five great grandchildren, Krislyn Britt-Wilder, Christian and Malorree Solesbee, Britten Pearson, and Nicalaus Dill; a sister-in-law, Linda Alverson, a brother-in-law, Keith Sellers (Barbara) all of Spartanburg, and a brother-in-law, Mark Sellers (Teresa) of Whiteville, N.C.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Lera Randall, Marjorie Lambert, and Jennie King and brothers-in-law Frank Randall, Luther Haggins, Presley Lambert, Clarence Langston, Lawrence King, and Ben Alverson.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 4, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m.at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Dr. Steven Owensby officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Morningside Bicycle Ministry, 897 S. Pine St., Spartanburg, S.C. 29302.
