Roby Ray Terrian, 95, of Spartanburg, SC, beloved husband, devoted father, loving grandfather, and cherished great-grandfather, entered his heavenly home on Friday evening July 19th, 2024. He is now reunited with the love of his life of 68 years, Joyce Frost Terrian. Born in St Ignace, Michigan in 1929 to George and Lula Terrian, he was the second born of six children and the last remaining sibling; Samuel, James, Joyce, Pauline, and Shirly.
Roby proudly served in the Army for 22 years, beginning his career in the Army of Occupation in Germany following WW II and serving in the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. Decorations awarded are; Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medals, Combat Infantryman Badge, and was a qualified Parachutist. As Sergeant First Class, he retired in 1969 with an honorable discharge from his last post at Wofford College as their ROTC instructor making Spartanburg SC his home.
Upon his retirement from the military, Roby’s entrepreneurial spirit found him working in the textile industry for many years as a co-owner, operator, technician, and retail owner. Later in life, he worked at the Council on Aging in transportation.
Roby was a devoted and faithful Christian giving his life to the lord in 1959. While in the military, he was a founding member of Mitchell Memorial Wesleyan Methodist Church, Spartanburg, SC. He began teaching the Word in Vietnam and continued throughout his long and traveled life. In addition, he was a founding member of Community Bible Church, Boiling Springs SC, and Faith Bible Fellowship, Cooley Springs, SC. He leaves a legacy of passionately spreading the Gospel, remembered by many whose lives and hearts have been changed.
Roby is survived by his daughter Theresa J Sexton (Frank) and son Rob “Bubba” L Terrian (Amanda), close friend, Sue Davis Long, including his six grandchildren; Lori Davis, Joel Sexton, Jessica Pall (Darin), Gabriel Fernandez (Peddy), Rebecca Sexton, Shay Brown (Jimmie) and 12 great-grandchildren; Matt, Natalie, Dillon, Zane, Howie, Gracie, Ethan, Lena, Dixie, Garth, Lorna and Emersyn as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the Spartanburg Region Hospital ICU 5th Floor and Hospice Home for the excellent and unwavering care.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 27th, 12:00 pm at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E Main St Spartanburg, SC, with service and interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be sent to Spartanburg Regional Foundation Hospice.
