Robert Young Sr.

Robert Wesley Young Sr., 86, died Saturday, September 5, 2015, at his home. Born December 18, 1928, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late George Dewey and Lula Mae Simmons Young, and widower of his true love Jeannette Riddle Young. Mr. Young was a retired parts manager with Vic Bailey Ford who loved all things automotive. He was an avid gardener and loved the Carolina Gamecocks. Mr. Young was a member of Central United Methodist Church and former member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Survivors include his children, Rhonda Carol Young of Spartanburg, SC, Robert Wesley Young Jr. (Alice) of Columbia, SC, Kathy Elaine Young Shugar (Greg) of Hickory, NC, Kimberly Ann Shields (Tom) of Columbia, SC, and Kelly Watson Greene (Brian) of Landrum, SC; grandchildren, Michael Steven Hammett (Carla), Robert Ward Hammett (Callie), Robert Wesley Young III, Olivia Kathryn Shugar, Sarah Grace Shugar, Molly Cleveland Shields, Margaret Hollis Shields, Anna Leigh Watson, and Martha Paige Greene; great-grandchildren, Mary English Hammett, Eloise Richards Hammett, and Loie Simmons Hammett; sisters, Linda Young Roddy, Kay Young Arthur and Ann Young Moore; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved canine companion Mr. Pug. He was predeceased by siblings, Helen Young Cantrell, George Cyrus Young, Charles Allen Young, James Edward Young, and John Thomas Young. Visitation will be from 11:00 to 11:45 am, Wednesday, September 9, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 20175 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307, with services following at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Tom Norrell and eulogist, Mr. Sam Knight. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Honorary escort will be the Norton Sunday School Class.
