Robert Wheeler, Sr.

Robert Eugene "Gene" Wheeler, Sr., 72, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, January 12, 2018. Born July 12, 1945, in Inman, SC, he was the son of the late Admiral Dewey Wheeler and Mary Pruitt Wheeler and husband of the late Renate Mandel Wheeler. A U. S. Army veteran, Mr. Wheeler loved singing gospel and country music as the "Wheeler Brothers". He also enjoyed the mountains and dirt track racing. He was a member of Del Mar Masonic Lodge, a Shriner and member of the Hillbilly Clan. Surviving are his children, Robert Wheeler, Jr. (Joy) and Patty Steadman (Jay), all of Spartanburg, SC; grandsons, Joshua Steadman (Lauren), Justin Steadman (Jade), Cody Wheeler, and Adam Wheeler; special adopted grandson, Creed Harvey; and sister, Isabel "Mozy" Williams of Taylors, SC. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two sisters and two brothers. Visitation will be 1:30-2:45 PM Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307 with funeral services following at 3:00 PM, conducted by The Rev. Keith Davis and The Rev. Carrol Caldwell. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family is at the home of Patty and Jay Steadman.
