Robert Wayne Ward, 70, of Moore, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, September 10, 2009, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center after a courageous battle with leukemia. Born February 24, 1939, in Winston-Salem, NC, he was the son of Doris Faith Vernon Ward of Winston-Salem, and the late William Wright Ward and the husband of Alyce Walker Ward. He attended Wake Forest University and enjoyed a long successful career in sales. After retirement he joined his son in Southern Landscape Management. He was a member of Anderson Mill Road Baptist Church and a U.S. Army Veteran. Surviving in addition to his mother and wife is a daughter, Susan Ward Harrison and her husband Rev. Kevin Daniel Harrison of Moore; three sons, Jeff Ward and his wife Dede of Simpsonville, Philip Scott Ward of Moore, and Ryan Taylor Ward and his wife Kimberly Michele of Mount Holly, NC; a sister, Peggy Ward Miller and her husband Billy Miller of Winston Salem, NC; a brother, Col. Larry N. Ward and his wife Nina Duncan Ward of Charleston; and a brother-in-law, Ronnie Walker and his wife June of Winston-Salem, NC. He leaves a lasting legacy for his cherished grandchildren, Lindsay and Jaime Trammel, Carli and Matti Ward, Kate Elizabeth, Will, Palmer and Colemann Harrison, and Ethan and Tyler Ward. He also leaves behind many beloved nephews and a very special niece. Visitation will be 2:00-4:30 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 5:00 p.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. D. J. Horton and the Rev. Kevin D. Harrison. Memorials may be made to Anderson Mill Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 4455 Anderson Mill Road, Moore, SC 29369. The family is at the home.
