Robert Starnes Jr.

Robert L. Starnes, Jr., 85, died peacefully on August 8, 2016, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Robert "Bob" was born in Lancaster, SC, on September 6, 1930, to the late Bob L. and Lula McManus Starnes. Bob was a U. S. Army Corporal combat veteran of the Korean War, receiving the Korean War Service Medal and two Bronze Stars. Following the war he became a South Carolina State Trooper, and served for 27 years. He also was a successful owner/operator of the Colonial Restaurant in Gaffney, S.C. for numerous years. He was a Mason and Shriner, member of the Woodman of the World and SC Troopers Association. Mr. Starnes was a devoted Christian, son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend to all. He loved God, his family and was always there to support everyone. He is survived by his son, Thomas Michael Starnes and wife, Annette; daughter, Cynthia Starnes McMahon and husband, Dr. Dennis McMahon; son, Patrick Dennis Starnes and wife, Jelly; six grandchildren, Christin LeeBrelan Carpenter, Tyler Michael Starnes, Brittney Nicole Starnes, Malorie Anne Starnes, Sarah Nicole Starnes, Brooke Lauren Starnes, great-grandson, Ethan Lee Savalli; sister, Dr. Jacqueline Adams-Traynor of Charlotte, NC; brother, Gene K. Starnes of Lancaster, SC, and numerous loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Reda Nell Harper Starnes; brothers, Dr. Ordway Starnes and R. Lawton Starnes, and sisters, Ruth Starnes, Sybil Faile, and Lucille Hinson-Hunter. The family will receive friends and family from 9:30-10:30 AM Thursday, August 11, 2016, in the Parlor of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, 250 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29306. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM, in Davis Chapel First Baptist Spartanburg, conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone. Entombment will follow with honors by the SC Highway Patrol Honors team in Good Shepherd Memorial Park Mausoleum, 4164 Boiling Springs Rd., Boiling Springs, SC 29316. Following the service, family and friends are welcome at 877 Oakcrest Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301.
