Robert Spake

Robert "Bob" William Spake, 61, of Spartanburg, died Monday, March 12, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born March 13, 1950, in Spartanburg, he was the son of Edith Finkel Boos of Cowpens and the late Hoyle Spake. Mr. Spake was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and graduated from Spartanburg Technical College. He retired from Norfolk-Southern Railway after 22 years of service, was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, the Samaritan's Class, and Calhoun Masonic Lodge #81. In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Susan Hembree Spake; son, Randall William Spake and wife April of Roebuck; granddaughter, Emeline Spake; brother, Kenneth D. Spake and wife Vickie of Chesnee; sisters, Yvonne Foster and Elizabeth Tucker, both of Spartanburg; sister-in-law, Christy Jarrett and husband Johnny of Spartanburg; brother-in-law, Donnie Ray Hembree and wife Patty of Pauline; father and mother-in-law, Donald and Betty Hembree of Spartanburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. Masonic rites will be performed at 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Bethlehem Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, in the church, conducted by the Rev. James Oliver and the Rev. Joe Burnett. Burial, with military rites, will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors, in the church, following the committal service.
