Robert Roper

Robert George "Bob" Roper, 76, formerly of Wellford, SC, went on to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at his home in Stockbridge, GA. Born August 14, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Grant and Louise Scharr Roper and husband of the late Margaret Annette Hammett Roper. A graduate of Fairforest High School and Spartanburg Methodist College, Mr. Roper was the owner of American Auto Parts on John B. White Blvd. for many years. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church, Columbus, NC, a life member of Jackson Masonic Lodge #383, a Shriner, and enjoyed camping and riding motorcycles. Surviving are his daughters, Teresa Poole (Jeff) of Stockbridge, GA, and Cynthia Zimmerman (David) of Wellford, SC; grandchildren, Jennifer Poole Winkleman (David), Christina Poole, Tiffany Poole, Sarah Poole, and Michael Poole (Cherelle); and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Bill Roper. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Midway Baptist Church, 2101 NC 108 Hwy E, Columbus, NC 28722, by the Rev. Peter McDonald and the Rev. Gary Lockee. Burial will be in Fort Prince Memorial Gardens, 125 Ft. Prince Rd., Wellford, SC 29385. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605; or Midway Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 679, Columbus, NC 28722.
