Robert Dean Quillen (Bobby), 81 of Spartanburg, SC died Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born August 15, 1941 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late William Howard Quillen and Florence Carter Davis and step-father Henry Mac Davis.
Mr. Quillen was a charter member of Saint James United Methodist Church.
He graduated from Fairforest High School in 1959 and later attended Gardner-Webb College for a year. He then served in the US Navy for 6 years.
Inspired by his time in the military, Mr. Quillen was a true patriot and held deep respect for all US service members.
He was also an avid sports fan and particularly admired athletes who overcame great odds and adversity to achieve success.
His family loved him very much and his encouragement, kindness, and love for them will be missed.
Survivors include sons Mark Quillen (Cindy) and Tony Quillen (Courtney); grandchildren Stephen (Mariem), Luke, Markie, Philip (Aubrey), Nancy, Camille, Vivian and Ben Quillen and Caroline Bradshaw (Logan); and great grandchildren Olivia and Beckett.
Mr. Quillen’s career spanned roles with The Spartanburg Herald Journal, The Sears and Roebuck Company, and Spartan Mills. He also started his own small business in downtown Spartanburg.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, April 13, 2023 at 12:00 PM in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by Tony Quillen and The Rev. Mark Quillen. Visitation will follow at the graveside.
