Robert M. Phillips, Sr., 88, of Pauline died Thursday, September 23, 2010 in Bedford, VA. Born September 2, 1922 in Glenn Springs, SC, he was the son of the late Rev. Rufus Martin Phillips and Catherine Moore Phillips. He was retired from Celanese Corporation after twenty five years of service, then as a host for The J. F. Floyd Mortuary for eight years. He was a graduate of Clemson University and a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. He was a member and former elder at Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Campbell Phillips of Bedford, VA; a daughter, Kathryn (Kay) Brewer (Chuck) of Lynchburg, VA; a son, Robert McIver Phillips, Jr. (Nan) of Spartanburg; three grandsons, William Robert Phillips of Spartanburg, Andrew McIver Phillips of IN, and Danny Brewer of Washington, DC; and one granddaughter, Emily Brewer of Lynchburg, VA. He was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret Greer and Elizabeth Gray. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 27, 2010 at Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Dr. B. E. Pettit.
