Robert Melton

Robert James Melton, 84, of 1565 White Oak Street, died Thursday, January 14, 2010, at Magnolia Place. Born May 19, 1925, in Spartanburg County, SC, he was the son of the late Robert and Mae Colley Melton and the husband of the late Kathleen Rose Pierce Melton. He was retired from Whitney Mill and a member of Walnut Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Pittman, Darlene Melton, and Cynthia Barrett, all of Spartanburg; a son, Robert James Melton, Jr. of Spartanburg; a sister, Thelma Hannon of Inman; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Judy Paris; four sisters, Wilma Tapp, Alma Spicer, Irene Johnson, and Ruby Melton; and two brothers, Woodrow Melton and Paul A. "Bill" Melton. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Shawn Fortner. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside. The family is at their respective homes.
