Robert Hunt

March 31, 1923 — February 14, 2010

Robert Tatlow Hunt, 86, passed away into eternal rest on Sunday, February 14, 2010, after a courageous battle with Parkinson's. He was at home surrounded by his family. Bob was born in St. Augustine, FL, to the late Robert Bruce and Alberta Tatlow Hunt. He attended Riverside Military Academy and graduated from Ketterlinus High School in St. Augustine where he was named "All Southern" in football for the Southeast. After graduation, Bob attended the University of Tennessee on a football scholarship. He left U.T. in 1943 to proudly serve his country in World War II. While stationed at Camp Croft in Spartanburg, Bob met his wife of 65 years, Joyce Helen Lockman. They married in St. Augustine in 1944. He left immediately to serve in the 6th Armored Division, fighting in France, Germany, and Belgium. On January 1, 1945, he was wounded in combat. Bob returned home and was awarded the Purple Heart. In 1946 he received a football scholarship to Wofford College to play for Coach Phil Dickens. He played three years and graduated in 1949. After graduation Bob went to work in textiles. He retired from Arkwright Mill as cotton buyer in 1998. Bob was a member and deacon at Covenant Presbyterian Church and later joined Westminster Presbyterian Church. Bob was involved in the American Textile Manufacturers Association. He was a member of the Spartanburg Country Club where he loved playing golf with friends. Bob loved his Lord, family, friends, pets, St. Augustine Beach, and life itself. He will be fondly remembered as a "gentle" man with a great sense of humor. Bob is survived by his wife, Joyce; a son, Bob Hunt, Jr. and wife Janet of Easley; a daughter, Nene Hubbard and husband Scott of Spartanburg; three grandchildren, Jennifer Hunt Coleman (Graham) of Greenville, Kathryn Hunt of Greenville, and Austin Hubbard of Spartanburg; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Hollis Coleman; and a niece, Jody Henderson of Inman. Bob was predeceased by a brother, Robert Bruce Hunt.
