Robert Curtiss Britt Sr, 80, of 223 Dunbarton Drive, Spartanburg, SC, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at his home. Born on October 13, 1932 and raised in Fayetteville, NC, he was the son of the late Missouri and Marvin Britt. He graduated from Fayetetteville High School and was the husband of Nancy Vick Britt. He enlisted in the Army during the Korean War and served in Germany. After military service, he graduated from NC State University with a bachelors degree in Textile Chemistry. A lifelong Wolfpack fan, he was a Caldwell endowment donor, and a member of the Chancellors Council. After graduation, he was an ASC certified chemist and worked with Atlas Chemicals in Delaware. He went on to become full partner with Lutex Chemicals in Tennessee. He then moved to Spartanburg, SC and built his own business, Techserv, Inc. Additionally, he was the founding owner of Britt Automotive. He was a member of the Spartanburg American Legion and the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, active until his illness. In addition to his loving wife of 61 years Nancy V. Britt, survivors include his son, Robert Britt II and wife Tonya of Spartanburg; his daughter, Gina Rowan and husband Frank of Greensboro, NC; a brother, Ronald Britt and wife Edith of Florence; five grandchildren, Kristin Rowan and fiancé Kasey Grubb of Burlington, NC, Joseph Rowan, and Brooke Rowan of Greensboro, NC, Jessica Greene and husband Joshua, and Robert Britt III of Spartanburg; step-grandchildren, Chase, Gina, Stormie, Ethan, and Evan; two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Kadin. He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
