Robert "Bob" Lee Blackwell, 85, of Spartanburg, SC died Friday, February 17, 2017 at RoseCrest. Born February 2, 1932 in Inman, SC, he was the son of the late Horace and Sarah Settle Blackwell. A 1st Lieutenant of The U.S. Army Ordnance Core, Mr. Blackwell was a 1954 graduate of Clemson University. He was a member of Covenant Baptist Church and a member of the Organizational Team for the church. He was a former Deacon and Sunday School teacher at previous churches. Mr. Blackwell was a former employee of Inman Mills, Leigh Fibers, The J.F. Floyd Mortuary and was retired from the Spartanburg Solicitors Office. He was involved with the Lions Club International and was a Boy Scout Council Member for Inman Mills. His hobbies include metal detecting, gardening, hunting, and fishing. Survivors include his wife of over 62 years, Polly Hazelwood Blackwell; son, Lee Blackwell (Denise) of Inman, SC; daughter, Karen Smith (Jan) of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Brad Coggins (Summer), Lori Osment (Brad), Jonathan Coggins, Hope Blackwell, and Bryce Blackwell; great-grandchildren, Gracie Coggins and Karlee Blauert; step grandchildren, Blair Smith (Jamie), Mary Anna Dixon; step great grandchildren, Casen Smith and Sully Dixon; and his close companion and entertainer, his dog, Dixie. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Judith Walton Blackwell. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Gary Hensley, Eddie Whitaker and Emory Bishop. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Complex, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, P.O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304 or to Covenant Baptist Church, 200 Evangel Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301. Mr. Blackwell wanted to send a special message to his dear, loving, faithful, caring, best-friend, and wife, Polly; Blessed and loving children, Lee and Karen; beautiful grandchildren, Brad, Lori, Jonathan, Hope, and Bryce; and beautiful great grandchildren, Gracie and Karlee.
