Robert Edward Beals died peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2022, after a long and courageous battle with leukemia. He was born September 26, 1948, to the late Robert John and Nora Gerhardt Beals. His loving family was at his side. He was a 1966 graduate of JHS in Johnstown, PA where he met and married the love of his life, Marie.
Bob served honorably in the US Navy, serving two nine-month tours in Vietnam. After the navy, he graduated from Penn College in Williamsport, PA with a degree in Tool and Die Making. He attended Rochester Institute of Technology and had a prosperous career in engineering. He retired from Fluor Daniel after 20 years as a manufacturing engineer. He was a devout Catholic his whole life and one of the earliest members of Jesus, Our Risen Savior Catholic Church in Spartanburg, SC.
Bob enjoyed living in South Carolina where the weather allowed him to fly fish and golf all year round. He was a past member and an officer of the local MBTU chapter of Trout Unlimited and a member of Village Greens and River Falls golf clubs. Bob also enjoyed camping with his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Marie Manganello Beals; his children Robert Joseph Beals and wife Jessica Beals of Spartanburg, SC; Angela Beals Yaworsky and husband Nicholas Yock Yaworsky of Greer, SC and six grandchildren, Julia Elizabeth Beals, Gabrielle Mae Beals, Anna Marie Beals, Amelia Marie Yaworsky, Nora Rose Yaworsky and Eva Giovanna Yaworsky; his siblings, Helen (Francis) Slivinsky of Johnstown, PA, Mary (Gary) Bezek of Simpsonville, SC, Walter (Donna) of Elizabethtown, PA, and Margaret (KC) Nau of Carbondale, CO. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, LaWana Ann Duque of Boiling Springs, SC, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert John Beals and Nora (Gerhardt) Beals, and sister Dorothy Ann McAlister.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on 2:00 pm Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Jesus Our Risen Savior Catholic Church, 2575 Reidville Rd, Spartanburg, SC 29301. Private inurnment will be at a later date at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church Columbarium, Spartanburg, SC.
