Ricky Layne Phillips, 50, of 188 Valley Street, died Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born December 5, 1959 in Newport News, VA, he was the son of the late Prentice C. B. and Lois Pearl Petty Phillips. He attended USC Upstate and Spartanburg Community College and was an instructional trainer for Lear Seating Corporation. He was a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church in St. Marys, GA and a retired U. S. Navy veteran. He never met a stranger and loved his family and his many friends. Survivors include his wife, Renee Hartsell Phillips; a son, Zachary Prentice Phillips of Charleston; two daughters, Alexis Layne Phillips of Mt. Pleasant and Hannah Renee Phillips of Inman; a brother, Pat Phillips and wife Terri of Chesnee; a nephew, Jesse Travis Phillips of Chesnee; and nieces Carly Brook Phillips and Carey Leigh Phillips of Chesnee. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Mark Williams. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 5005 LJB Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244; or to Spartanburg Regional Foundation, Bearden-Josey Center for Breast Health, 101 East Wood Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at the home of Renee Phillips, 4 Oakland Avenue, Inman, SC 29349.
