Ricky Mitchem

Ricky E. Mitchem, 69, of Campobello, SC, died Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Upstate Community Hospice House. Born April 2, 1952 in Cowpens, SC, he was the son of the late Robert and Imogene Cantrell Mitchem.

Ricky was a graduate of Boiling Springs High School, Class of 1970, and earned his Associate degree from Spartanburg Technical College. He was retired from Spartanburg County School District Five after over 20 years of service as Director of Custodial Department. He loved his Lord, and all of his family. During his retirement, he loved to take his grandchildren fishing, hiking, picnicking and visiting historic places in South Carolina.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Cantrell Mitchem of the home, his children, Jason Lemmonds of Spartanburg, SC, Christie Earle (Tony) of Spartanburg, SC, and Gregory Mitchem of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren, Tyson Lemmonds, Jacob Lemmonds, Jaylan Lemmonds, who were reared in the home; eight additional grandchildren, and one great granddaughter, sisters, Pam Mitchem Hicks (Gerald) of Boiling Springs, SC and Angie Mitchem Henderson (Roy) of Spartanburg, SC. Along with his parents, he was also predeceased by siblings, Myra Mitchem, Kim Mitchem Poole, and Robert “Tony” Mitchem.

Visitation will be 12:45 – 1:45 PM Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Bible Baptist Church Sanctuary, 330 West Finger Street, Landrum, SC 29356. A Celebration of Life service will be at 2:00 PM at the church, conducted by The Rev. Dr. Tommy C.  Turner.

The family will be at their respective homes.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bible Baptist Church.
