Ricky Martin

Ricky Gerald Martin, 67, of Wellford, SC, died Friday, October 3, 2014, at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills-Landrum, SC. Born August 17, 1947, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late James Virgil "Abe" Martin and Josephine Blanton Martin. A 1966 graduate of Dorman High School and U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, Mr. Martin was a member of Arcadia Baptist Church and Arcadia Masonic Lodge #285. He loved sports, playing golf, the beach, and was a self-employed restaurateur. Surviving is his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Cathy George Martin; children, Kristen Smith (Jason) of Spartanburg, SC, and Jason Martin of the home; grandsons, Ryan and Carter; and brother, Rocky Lane Martin (Kathy) of Moore, SC. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Larry Wayne Martin. Visitation will be 1:30-2:45 PM Sunday, October 5, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Steven Rhodes. Burial with military rites will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Presbyterian Church, 438 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Kristen and Jason Smith, 4220 Chaffee Road, Spartanburg, SC 29301.
