Richard Oliver Parks, 79, of Spartanburg, died Saturday, July 23, 2011, at his home. Born September 25, 1931, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Oliver Eugene and Annie Lucille Moon Parks. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, was retired from Oates Oil Company, and was a member of Skylyn United Methodist Church. Richard was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Barbara Cookson Parks; a daughter, Karen Ficklin (Bill) of Greer, SC; two granddaughters, Barbara Gossett (Tim) of Boiling Springs, SC and Stacey Suddeth of Lyman, SC; three great-grandchildren, Dennis, Ryan, and Kaleigh; a sister, Betty Brooks of Spartanburg; and several nieces. He was predeceased by his son, Dennis Michael Parks. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, July 24, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, July 25, 2011, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. James B. Carter. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
