Richard Nelson, Sr.

Richard "Dick" Winthrop Nelson, Sr., 90, of Inman, SC, died Friday, January 24, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born August 19, 1923, in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Gilbert Frank and Anna Krapser Nelson and widow of Clara Francis Pertsch Nelson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the South Pacific during World War II, and was retired from Milliken & Company as a textile designer. Survivors include a daughter, Wendy Nelson Griffin (Joel) of Boiling Springs, SC; son, Richard Nelson, Jr. (Karen) of Signal Mountain, TN; granddaughters, Erin Knight and Emily Griffin; grandsons, Paul Griffin, Nathaniel Nelson, and Lucas Nelson; and great-grandson, Griffin Knight. Dick was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Graveside services, with military rites by the SC State Guard Honors Team, will be held at 3:00 PM on Monday, January 27, 2014, at Good Shepherd Memorial Park, 4164 Boiling Springs Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316, conducted by the Rev.
