Richard Kinley

Richard Harold Kinley, 72, husband of Linda Wood Kinley, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017. Born November 14, 1944 in Winnsboro, SC, he was a son of the late Neal Cohn and Louise Elizabeth Stillwell Kinley. Harold had friends throughout the state of South Carolina from his years of traveling across the state for his job with the S.C. Forestry Commission. He dedicated most of his life to his passion of amateur radio where he was known worldwide by his call sign - WA4GIB. Harold authored three books about ham radio communications, including Standard Radio Communications Manual with Instrumentation and Testing Techniques which has been translated into Spanish and sold around the world including in Brazil, London, Sydney, Toronto, New Delhi, Tokyo, Singapore, New Zealand, and Mexico. Though widely known and loved by friends and readers alike, he was most deeply loved as a husband, a father, and grandfather. Harold is survived by his daughter and daughter-in-law, Jennifer and Kim Kinley-Lawrence; grandchildren, Caden and Gracen; his son and son-in-law, Jack Kinley and Cain Williamson; his beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephew all of whom he loved dearly. Harold is preceded in death by his wife and soul-mate of 49 years, Linda Ann Wood Kinley; and his brother, Jerry Lamar Kinley. The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 AM Friday, March 31, 2017 at Nazareth Presbyterian Church, 680 Nazareth Church Rd., Moore, SC 29369, by the Rev. Julie Schaaf. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
