Richard Horton

Richard Harvey Horton, 79, of Moore, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born August 11, 1930, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Zeb Vance and Inez Poteat Horton. He was employed with Community Cash Stores for 47 years, retiring as Company Supervisor. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, and involved in numerous civic organizations. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ruby Koon Horton; two daughters, Cathy H. Parks and husband Danny of York, and Cindy H. Ennis and husband Phil of Spartanburg; a granddaughter, Jennifer Culver and husband Danny of Rock Hill; two grandsons, Chris Parks of Rock Hill, and R. J. Plumley of Spartanburg; three great-grandchildren, Mathew, Heather, and Conner Culver; a sister, Cornelia King of Forest City, NC; and three brothers, Benjamin Horton of Mayo, George Horton of Boiling Springs, and Conner Horton of Cowpens. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Horton Miller; and a brother, Everett Horton. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2009, at St. John's Lutheran Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Boyd F. Cook and the Rev. D. Murray Shull, Jr. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303; or to the American Cancer Society, 154 Milestone Way, Greenville, SC 29615.
