Richard Hoffmann

June 29, 1926 — March 22, 2015

Richard C. "Dick" Hoffmann, 88, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, March 22, 2015. Born June 29, 1926, in Kingston, NY, he was the son of the late Henry Christian and Ester Gruver Hoffmann. A U. S. Navy veteran, Mr. Hoffmann was retired from Hoechst Fibers. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church since 1971, a member of the Lions Club, a Mason and Shriner. Dick was a 1950 Summa Cum Laude graduate of Clemson University receiving a BS in Textile Science. He was an IPTAY member since 1950 and was awarded the Order of the Silver Tiger of Clemson Alumni Fund. He loved to travel and was also a member of the See-Saw Square Dancing Club. Surviving are his cherished wife of 59 years, Dorothy J. Wright Hoffmann; sons, Stephen W. Hoffmann (Sherry) and Bryan R. Hoffmann, all of Spartanburg, SC, and Bruce A. Hoffmann (Linda) of Rome, GA; grandchildren, Jennifer H. Tucker of Dayton, OH, Eric C. Hoffmann of Rome, GA, Kathryn J. Hoffmann of Banner Elk, NC, James C. Hoffmann and Nicholas S. Hoffmann, both of Hendersonville, NC; and sister, Virginia H. Steingraber of Lake Oswego, OR. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Scott C. Hoffmann. A graveside service, with military rites, will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 25, 2015, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. David Smith. Visitation will follow at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Care of South Carolina, 110 Dillon Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307; or Bethel United Methodist Church General Fund, 245 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
