Richard Harvey

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Richard Morgan Harvey of Spartanburg, South Carolina, who passed away at home on September 15, 2021, following a brief illness.

Mr. Harvey was born in Glendale, South Carolina, on May 6, 1942, to the late Catherine Willene Reece and Larry Morgan Harvey, Sr. and was raised in Glendale Baptist Church.

Richard was a 1960 graduate of Spartanburg High School. Following high school, he joined the US Navy. He was a proud United States Navy Veteran from 1961-1966 who served in the Cuban Missile Crisis. After returning home, he became the owner of Harvey Construction Company which he operated until he retired. Mr. Harvey was a member of the Converse Masonic Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Richard loved his wife and family, his many friends, his time in the US Navy, being on the water in his boat, and telling the best stories ever told.

Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Brenda Kay Crocker Harvey, his daughters, Cindy Harvey Snead (Warren) of Inman, SC, and Michelle Harvey Smith (Toy) of Boiling Springs, SC, four grandchildren, Jamey Snead (Mary Kathryn), Reece Snead, Hannah Smith, and Harrison Smith, his siblings, Rhonda Harvey Lingerfelt (Smith) of Raleigh, NC and Larry M. Harvey, Jr. (Diane) of Duncan, SC. Along with his parents, he was also predeceased by a sister, Donna Harvey Corley.

A Graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, September 20, 2021, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307 and conducted by the Reverend Dave Rodrick.

The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Home Hospice, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 20303.
