Richard Burgess

Richard Allen "Dick" Burgess, 68, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, November 5, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home after a six month battle with cancer. Born December 20, 1943, in New Haven, CT, he was the son of the late Lee Parker and Elizabeth Tuttle Burgess. A member of the U. S. Army Reserve, Mr. Burgess was also a National Management Association member, a member of Sigma-Nu at Northeastern University in Boston, MA, and worked in the foundry industry for over 35 years at Draper Corporation and Donsco Inc. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather "Boppa", great-grandfather, and coach. He was of the Methodist faith. Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Virginia Anne Walker Burgess; daughter, Barbara Burgess of Spartanburg, SC; son, Richard Burgess Jr. and wife Tara of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Matthew Campbell and fiancé Lindsay Harper, Sara Burgess, and Parker Burgess, all of Spartanburg, SC; great-grandchildren, Arielle Epley and Bridgette Campbell, both of Spartanburg, SC; and a brother, Lee Burgess Jr. and wife Carol of Kansas City, MO. He was predeceased by a grandson, Timothy Scott Burgess. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Thursday, November 8, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Chad Norris. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is at the home.
