Rhita Bissell Wrightson, 85, of 400 Webber Road, died Sunday, January 9, 2011, at White Oak Estates. Born May 1, 1925 in Spartanburg, Mrs. Wrightson was a daughter of the late Samuel Wickham and Claudia Howell Bissell and was married to the late Joseph Eugene Wrightson. A graduate of Converse College, she was a retired executive with Milliken Chemical, was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Altrusa International, and was a communicant of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Wrightson is survived by two nieces, Margaret Bissell Walker and Anna Bissell Bourne; and a nephew, Ralph M. Hendrix. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Samuel W. Bissell, Jr. and Gregg C. Bissell; two sisters, Nelle Bissell Meetze and Sarah Bissell Hendrix; and two nephews, Samuel Wickham Bissell, III and Gregg C. Bissell, Jr. Graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, January 14, 2011, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Robert L. Brown. The family requests that in memory of Mrs. Wrightson, memorials be made to the Claudia Howell Bissell Music Scholarship, c/o Converse College, 580 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
