Pastor Joe Lee Petty fondly known as "Popa" and "JL" peacefully entered eternal rest on Friday, August 5, 2011. He was a native of Forest City, NC, born October 21, 1935, the son of the late James Richmond Petty and Maggie Lee Green. He was joined in Holy Matrimony with Celeste Ridgeway Petty, November 22, 2003. Pastor Petty was licensed and ordained February 18, 1973 and became pastor of Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. He was the founder of Revelation Baptist Church where he was the pastor for over 30 years. He was a retiree of the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind. He loved getting away to the mountains and enjoyed lighthouses. He ministered to the Body of Christ to "Be nice!" He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mamie E. Petty; stepson, Rev. Jerome Boyd; mother-in-law, Rev. Elizabeth Hill Ridgeway; step-granddaughter, Joshandra L. Boyd; brothers, James R. Petty, Jr., Eugene Petty, Boyce (Jewel) Petty, Joseph L. Petty; sisters, Annie M. Petty Packnett, Kathy M. Petty; and step-mother, Lillian M. Petty. Pastor Joe leaves to cherish fond memories...his wife, Celeste Ridgeway Petty; two sisters, Joyce Petty of Charlotte, NC and Joan Petty Slade (Billy) of Prince William County, VA; two brothers, Daniel Petty of Glen Burnie, MD and Melvin Petty of Forest City, NC; two stepsons, Gabriel Boyd and Demetrius M. Boyd of Spartanburg, SC; step-daughter-in-law, Sandra M. Boyd of the home; two brother-in-laws, Michael Ridgway and LeRoy Ridgeway of Pacolet, SC; four step-grandsons, Brain S. Boyd, Quinton L. Boyd, Gabriel A. Boyd, Jr. and Jonathan Ruffin; three great-grandchildren, Harmony N. Boyd, Braylon Boyd and Gabriel Boyd III; and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 7:00-8:30 Friday, August 12, 2011, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 13, 2011, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, conducted by Pastor Marquis E. Townes.
