Rev. Melvin Lawrence Parker, Sr., 79, of Spartanburg, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. He was born February 11, 1933, in Marion, NC, and was the son of Alvin F. and Lena Jackson Parker. Rev. Parker was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, a deacon, Sunday School teacher of the Parker Class and a Mason. He recently retired after 38 years as the owner of the Parker Agency Nationwide Insurance in Lyman, SC. Surviving is his wife, Carol Joyce Caldwell Parker; son, David Stuart Parker of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Jacqueline Suzanne Parker Capelli of New Jersey; great-granddaughters, Gianna Carmella Capelli of Philadelphia, PA, and Sarah Amiya Martin of New Bern, NC; brothers, Floyd Lee Parker and wife Carolyn of Old Fort, NC, Eugene Raye Parker and wife Cindy of Sylva, NC, and James Alvin Parker and wife Virginia of Charlotte, NC; sister, Juanita Parker Hughes of Morganton, NC; step-daughter, Tracie Easterling and husband William F. of Spartanburg, SC; and step-grandchildren, Brandon Michael Driggs of Corvallis, OR, Ashley Marie Driggs of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Jean Marie Easterling, William Fisher Easterling, Jr., and Charles Caldwell Easterling, all of Spartanburg, SC. He was predeceased by his first wife, of 47 years, Sarah Ellen Fullbright Parker; son, Melvin Lawrence Parker, Jr.; granddaughter, Victoria Christine Parker; and brother, Harold Dean Parker. Visitation will be 1:00-2:45 PM Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Donald Wilton.
